If I were to sum up this weekend, I would say that I sat down and I wrote. I’ve had so much on my mind and it was nice to just write it all out. Afterwards, my mind finally was feeling more clear and had room to even get excited over writing a blog post again. I’m hoping this creative energy sticks around for a while and I can continue posting weekly again.
Lately, a big thing on my plate has been my fitness goals for this year. I took the leap at the end of October to finally hire a coach to write my gym programs. I feel way more confident going into the gym with a plan. My biggest thing since getting back to the gym last May has been weightlifting and specifically powerlifting. I LOVE powerlifting!! My body responds well to powerlifting as I have leaned out and grown stronger.
I’ve been weightlifting on and off since 2010, because I love it and it keeps me in shape. I have never specifically trained for anything, but this year is going to be different. I signed up for my first powerlifting meet for May 2018 and I am really looking forward to it. My first meet is really just to get the experience and see what I can do. It is also so I can meet people with similar interests to mine. I am continuing to set PRs in the gym and can’t wait to see what my deadlifts, squats and bench can get to by May. I plan to write at least monthly updates on how my training is going. Along with training, I am working on my nutrition too and plan to write a post on counting my macros, which I will say I am not 100% perfect at, but I am getting better.
In addition to my first powerlifting meet, I am also signed up for the Color Run 5K, locally, in April. I don’t know if I will really run since I am not a runner, but I am hoping to work on my running a bit and maybe run a mile without stopping. That would be good for me. The color run is more of a fun run though and a run/walk.
With the Color Run and the powerlifting meet, I am really looking forward to Spring time and hoping these two things also keep me going through the winter.
I’m excited to get back to my regular training schedule this week. The past two weeks I have had a cold and been taking it easy and taking more rest days. This past week I did some yoga flows in the morning to wake up my body and get in a good stretch. It was something I was able to do when I wasn’t feeling up to lifting and a great way to move my body.
For later in the year, I am also considering the Warrior Dash that is happening nearby in August. I know my lifting will train me well for the obstacles, but I definitely have to work on my running for that. It looks like a lot of fun though.
So currently I lift 4 times a week, attend yoga classes 2 times a week and sometimes do some on my own and also have tap dance. My fitness and training hours can definitely add up to a part time job but I look forward to 5am gym sessions or after work gym sessions after sitting all day. The gym still remains to be my most favorite part of my day and now going in with a training plan, I feel way more confident and actually see results.
