With my last free weekend before the fall semester begins, Brian and I headed to the state fair on Saturday. We arrived around 11am and the weather for Saturday was perfect for walking the state fair since it was cooler in the morning and only a high of 72 degrees (which feels so cold after many 80 and 90 degree days this August). The temperature was perfect for being outside though. We went to see the butter sculpture and I grabbed an overpriced cookie, which was delicious.
Then we saw the sand sculpture which celebrated the landing on the moon 50th anniversary and Wizard of Oz 80th anniversary this year. The carving of the Wizard of Oz characters was amazing.
After that we walked around and grabbed some food before Brian’s brother and girlfriend met up with us. Then we headed to see the bunnies, chickens and turkeys. I LOVE seeing the giant fluffy bunnies.
I also got my funnel cake and got powered sugar everywhere lol.
Then we saw the horses, which I don’t think I have had the chance to see much of the previous 2 years since they are usually around the first weekend. We also had a chance to stop and watch some of them compete which was fun to watch.
Of course I couldn’t leave the fair without buying some soap bars as well. I also bought another half gallon of maple syrup which should last me a bit.
After the fair, Brian and I were planning to visit a friend nearby but plans changed and we headed for a quick shopping trip at Trader Joe’s and then met up with one of his old co workers passing through Syracuse and grabbed dinner at the mall at our favorite Mexican place, Cantina Laredo. I was pretty full from all the food we grabbed at the fair but I still ate tons of chips and guacamole and some of my fajitas and brought some leftovers home. It was fun chatting for a couple hours with his old co worker and meeting her husband. By the time we got home it was around 7pm and we had walked a good 20,000 steps in the day. Our feet were tired and we just lounged around before heading to bed. We slept in until about 7am both Saturday and Sunday and it was wonderful. We both wake up between 4 and 5am during the week so the sleep in time was nice.
A week after our party and everything and it’s time to get back to our regular schedule of eating more veggies and meal prepping for the week. I also need to get back with consistency on my workout schedule and now that school is starting this week I plan to get back to regular routine. I really don’t know where the month of August went. It was busy and stressful, but I’m happy that is all winding down and hopefully September will be a better month with getting back into regular routines again.
What’s your favorite fair food?
