Today is my sister’s 23rd birthday!! Happy first birthday not being in school LOL. My sister and I are 5.5 years apart and we are total opposites for the most part. It’s funny now because when we take pictures together you can really see the resemblance.
Let me tell you the ways we are opposite though. She is the social butterfly. I am the introvert and love my time in and on the couch.
She loves staying up late. I am a morning person, so bed time between 9-10pm is for me.
She eats ONLY butter on her pancakes. I have ONLY maple syrup on my pancakes. (Isn’t she weird for not liking syrup?! It’s pure sugar…but anyway)
On the sugar topic, she loves chewy and gummy candies. I despise those and prefer peanut butter cups and M&Ms. Somehow she doesn’t LOVE chocolate, it’s ok, but she prefers the gummies. Actually this worked well for Halloween growing up and trading candy.
My sister hates milk, never liked it, and only drank juice and occasionally water. I used to only drink milk and occasionally water, but since I overdid it on the milk, becoming lactose intolerant, I have switched to almond milk for smoothies and drink unsweetened iced tea, but mostly I drink water. Lots and lots of water.
My sister is the fashion queen. I don’t buy many clothes. I stick to workout clothes a lot as they just seem easier for me. I live for t-shirts and jeans. The simpler, the better. I love to walk malls, but I hate spending money, so I often leave empty handed unless I go there for a specific item.
My sister is the one person in our family household of 4 who became good at getting rid of STUFF. Oh and when I went to college, my room got random stuff thrown into it, but my sister’s room, it would be a boomerang affect if something was put in there she didn’t want, back into the hall and sometimes into my room. If I put the item into the hall, I was told to “keep it in my room” and eventually it will leave… (Thankfully after moving and traveling the last 4 years so much, I am now on the minimalist train and constantly working to decrease the few items I have)
So in all these opposites growing up, since my sister graduated college and entered the “real world,” she has been asking me for advice now. It makes me feel so important, but also I think my answer is “google it” to half her questions haha.
My sister just started a blog, so you should go check it out. She is doing lifestyle and food focused posts for now. In addition, she is starting a Youtube channel with some fun Vlogs. We live miles and miles apart from one another (Iowa vs New York state) and with the big age gap between us, I don’t think my sister and I were ever super close. Now though, we talk and text more which I am enjoying. This is partly because I am nosy and love watching her vlogs and giving her advice but also laughing because I suddenly see her using almond butter and I’m like WHAT?! This is a girl who doesn’t like peanut butter and wouldn’t touch any nut butters growing up and now I see her eating almond butter and making her own granola bars. I asked her when she started to eat almond butter and why and she said “it’s what adults do.” LMAO
I could go back to the early 2000s when they had almond butter at Whole Foods and most people didn’t know what it was. My best friend’s parents used all these “weird” ingredients and foods if you were to ask me and my best friend at age 12. I was (still am) a very picky eater. I was quick to judge things I never tried and say ewww to them. I think I had tried almond butter a couple times back then, but it wasn’t “in” and it was therefore weird. I did love peanut butter though. I laugh now because I use almond milk, almond butter, almond flour and tons of other “healthy” ingredients as I read healthy food blogs and sometimes follow the trends.
So here my sister is, starting a blog right after college. I started one a couple years after college when I got to reading more of them and found myself with a lot of free time just like my sister right now. So maybe we are more similar than I thought. Maybe we just both had to enter “adulthood” to have things in common.
Anyway this is a long post to say Happy Birthday Theresa and I love you and maybe in the future we will be hosting a sister podcast where we can talk about all our differences and now similarities.
Do you have any siblings, you are the opposite of?
