Hello again!! We ended up moving into the house last weekend and I took an unintentional computer break. I’ve been checking in from my phone, but I haven’t been on my computer much in the past week. I set up a temporary desk in my office/yoga room to work at for now until my IKEA furniture arrives and we finish up the house.
We moved in before we were done with all our projects since Brian had to suddenly head out of town for work for a while. So I am back to suitcase and mattress on the floor life. I can’t complain though as it has been wonderful having my own space again and opening up all my kitchen boxes to set up to cook. Oh and I quickly discovered we have a pretty sensitive smoke alarm and I should use that fan above the stove, especially when cooking bacon…
I just used the oven for the first time this weekend to make muffins and roast veggies. That seems to be working well. I have been running the dishwasher tons because my plate set is a set of 4 so I run out of plates fast. I hope to be getting more plates soon from my grandma since she just moved in with my aunt and has tons of extra kitchen stuff to spare. Besides plates though, I’m good on Tupperware. I haven’t even brought over the set I bought to use when I couldn’t get to my boxes. I think I will be making a pile to get rid of. Speaking of getting rid of things, it may be time to sell some of the items I have shuffled around to 4 different addresses and a few states over the past 4 years. Yeah…I have to stop moving once a year. Well at least I can say moving once a year keeps you from accumulating. I actually just cleaned out my bathroom bin of soaps and such, tossing some things that have sat in the bin for 2 years that are old. It’s amazing how easy it is to accumulate, but I am focusing on minimalism at the moment. We ordered furniture for our bedroom and my office. Once that furniture arrives, that will be the most furniture I have ever owned. I didn’t use a dresser in my time living in Philadelphia, just suitcases and the closet. Now I have a smaller closet, so I got a 3 drawer dresser from IKEA to go with my office furniture. I just have to figure out a closet organizer.
I am trying to get all the bedrooms painted while Brian is away and I have been quite successful. Last week I painted the second coat of my light yellow in my office. Then I ran out of paint so I had to wait until Saturday morning to pick up a quart of paint and I touched up the edges between the ceiling and wall. I think it came out quite nice. It was definitely the hardest to paint so far, since the color was much lighter than before. It’s not perfect near the top edges, but I think I did a pretty good job for a novice painter. Also Brian installed ceiling lights in the office so far as seen in the picture. There will be 4 can lights in each bedroom when he is done.
On Sunday I tackled the guest bedroom. It turns out we picked a very similar grey color. This made it challenging to figure out where I left off and I missed a few spots on the top, but it needs another coat of paint anyway.
I also painted more trim in the garage, but I have declared myself done with that until Brian starts putting up some of the crown molding and trim. I would say about 90% of the pile is painted though.
So my task for this week is to finish the guest bedroom painting and then I will be done painting for a bit. I do need to paint the closets in the bedrooms, but first I need to get out the wooden shelf/rack so I’m not sure if I will do that myself or just wait. The closets are small, so painting shouldn’t take too long. We also may need more white paint for that.
On Friday my kitchen cart was delivered (purchased from Wayfair) and I was so excited that I unboxed it at 8pm and started working on it while watching a movie. I then took a break to chat with a friend for a while, so I was up until 10:30 screwing it all together and left the cabinets for the morning. I love how it looks and it keeps the microwave off the counter to give me more food prep space.
Saturday afternoon our bed headboard arrived, but we have to wait until we stain the floors and get the room all set so we can attach that to the wall. That will be a bit. The bed frame should arrive today or tomorrow I am thinking. I am not sure if I will put that together right away or wait since I know we will be moving our mattress to a different room while we do the floors.
So that’s all the house stuff I have been working on and then I had my tap recital this past weekend, so that kept me busy. I have felt totally off on my days lately since I keep switching around my workout schedule. I can say I have been productive though. Now that it’s June and summer, my weekends are filling up with plans quickly. I hope to get in a hike or two and visit some friends. It will definitely be busy and I think I was stressed a bit with all the busyness and house projects this past week. Sunday evening I took some down time to get back to writing and also just spent some time on the couch. I am almost caught up with Jane the Virgin season 4. Then I am thinking I may finally go back to Pretty Little Liars as I left off on season 4 years ago. Oh and it’s nice having a giant 60 inch TV and my own couch and living room. That has been so relaxing and peaceful.
I’ll be back later this week to recap more of the weekend.
