This was the first weekend I was home since we closed on our house. Saturday I ran some errands in the morning and then it was a painting afternoon. I think I spent about 5 hours at the house. We met another neighbor too.
Brian worked on sanding the edges of the floor in one bedroom while I painted my accent wall.
Love how the lime green brightens the room.
I then painted a darker blue in the room that will be our bedroom. The first blue we got was way too bright for what we were trying to go for. The second coat of paint went on much better than the first, so that was good.
In between I also worked on painting trim in the garage.
It was an absolutely beautiful day outside and a great day to have all the windows open and paint.
Around 5, Brian headed back and prepped steaks for dinner. I came back shortly after and roasted sweet potatoes and made bean salad to go with our steaks. We decided to watch Shrek on Netflix. It has been forever since I have seen that movie and I forgot how funny it was.
I also decided to make muffins after eating dinner too because apparently my appetite is back in full force.
I was pretty tired by the end of the day, so I wrote for a bit and then headed to bed.
Sunday morning Brian was awake early. He had trouble sleeping and that left me wide awake around 5:30, but I stayed in bed until 6:30 when my stomach started growling. I decided to get up and feed my stomach some cereal and bacon. Then I did some work on my computer before heading to the gym around 8am.
There was one other person at the gym for a bit with me and then I had the whole gym to myself. It was odd because usually there are people there by 9am Sunday, but I am guessing people were out of town for the weekend. It was nice to be back to my weekend gym routine.
When I came back from the gym, I did some cleaning and then headed over to our new house to work on painting. Since it was quite humid and rainy, I painted some trim, but wasn’t able to get a second coat of paint on since it was taking longer to dry.
I then finished up the walls in the bedroom and headed home for some lunch.
Brian was finally up and after eating, he came back to the house with me. He sanded and I painted the ceiling in my office/yoga room. Painting the ceiling is way harder than painting the walls in my opinion. I got white paint splatters all over my arms and face but I think it turned out pretty well for my first time painting a ceiling.
I still need to buy paint for the third bedroom and my light yellow paint for my office, so hopefully I can get those next rooms done in the next week.
On Monday I did some more painting of the trim. We browsed for furniture. I found a desk that could work for my office area, but I am also hoping to add a bookshelf in a similar finish. I’m not completely sold on anything yet.
I did want to replace the old light fixtures in the kitchen and I quickly picked out some simple fixtures at Home Depot and Brian got one installed. The other one is slightly smaller so I need to add a little paint around where the fixture will be first.
Slowly but surely the house is coming together. I can’t wait to move in. I tried to take some before photos though they are a little dark since we don’t have great lighting in the rooms, but I will definitely get a post together of before and after for the rooms.
How are you at home improvement projects?
