You hear the saying “it’s the simple things in life” and it’s totally true. The older I get, the more I appreciate all the little things. What really put things in perspective for me, was when I moved to Philadelphia almost 2 years ago. I only brought what could fit in my car, no furniture, only the essentials, all my clothes that I actually wear fit into 2 suitcases (1 large and 1 medium suitcase that I was allowed to take as my own from my family).
I may only be in my mid-twenties, but I am amazed at how different kids lives are now. Technology at our fingertips, babies start playing with ipads and phones. While there are great things about the technology we have now and believe me, I love/am addicted to my phone, I also enjoy some of the simple things like…
…curling up on the couch reading and journaling
(side note: after not having a couch for a year, I really really appreciate just having a couch to sit on)
…practicing yoga
I believe my triangle pose is actually improving, as in my top arm is not at a weird angle, it looks straight!
…building up a sweat at the gym
(Did you know that Nickelodeon plays old cartoons at 5am?! I was watching The Angry Beavers while biking yesterday morning!!)
…spending time in the kitchen putting together dinner
(loving these turkey lettuce wraps)
…coming home from work and immediately changing into workout clothes (whether working out or not!)
…not having any commitments after work so I can take my time walking and enjoy a quiet evening
…enjoying the sunshine as Spring is approaching. I even tried to run a bit after work yesterday, which ended up with mostly walking but I really enjoyed the fresh air and not having to sniffle or warm up my nose.
I love that the days are getting longer and the sun is out now. The sun truly changes my mood and even if these current above average, record high temps don’t stick around, I will be enjoying them as much as I can. Always remember to appreciate the little things in life.

I’m a big time believer that it’s the simple things that add up to make the biggest differences. And I totally know what you mean about the extra sunshine! It’s been warmer and sunnier here lately, and it’s totally making me feel like my feet have little wings 🙂

Yes Amanda. I feel so much lighter, though maybe that is due to less layers too, but the sun makes such a difference.

Yes, in my adulthood and after having my first child, I have learned to embrace the little things. In fact, a few years ago when I went through a tough period of what was probably mild depression and definitely a case of “stuck in the comparison trap,” this attitude – and a daily “gratitude jar” where I’d write down something positive (small or big) from each day – really helped change my mindset.
Thanks for the reminder <3

I started doing a gratitude journal, writing down at least one thing a day in February and it has really helped me stay more positive.

Oh man, I FEEL YOU on being shocked at “kids today”. Especially now that I’m a mom and I have to actually THINK about these kind of things, it’s just out of control. 2-year-olds with their own iPads! I don’t even have an iPad!!
Alicia says
Yes it is so crazy seeing all the little kids with their own ipads, cell phones, etc. I think it was nicer having more fun with barbies growing up and more imaginative play, but I know it is hard to keep the kids totally away from all the technology. I guess you just need to find a balance with it.

I’ve been in such a turkey salad wrap mood as well. They are simple, quick and of course deliscious.
