Happy Monday!! I am really happy this Monday because I am off work!! Yay for one more day for the weekend! Thank you President’s day!! Today I just have a doctor appointment and then Brian is supposed to be coming down and we are planning to cook a nice dinner at the apartment as a late Valentine’s Day date night.
This weekend was really a focus on yoga weekend, except without the training to attend. We have a test on Friday so I have been trying to study for that as well as practicing my sequence. I am planning to focus on balanced lifestyles, as so many healthly living bloggers have taught me over the past couple years. So I have been thinking a lot about balance in different aspects of my life and this weekend I made sure to balance the chores that had to be done with some fun random dancing in the apartment and some yoga practicing and studying. I really felt very productive this weekend. Friday, at work, I may have been studying some yoga since our accounting system was down for the day so I couldn’t do much. However that was totally fine with me. Then I came home and went through my sequence a couple times and made notes. Time flew by.
Saturday morning I had to get up around 7 so that I could be ready for my 8am eye doctor appointment with a new doc since I moved last year. I have gone to the same eye doctor office since I was 5 years old, pretty much. I mean my eye doctor moved so I followed him continuing to go to him until he retired and then the other eye doctor in his office got all of his patients. So finding a new eye doctor was definitely a change for me. Luckily the appointment went well. My eyes have not seemed to change, but I did learn something new about my prescription. I wear contacts and glasses and apparently my previous eye doctor prescribed +0.5 for my left eye for contacts and -0.5 for my left eye for glasses. At first the new doctor thought that might be an error, but turns out it was on my previous records that that is what he meant. I am so glad I had my previous records sent over and brought my contacts with me. Since I have been wearing my new contacts and glasses for almost a year and have been fine, she did not want to change it unless I noticed a difference, so I have 5 single day contacts for my left eye to try this week to see if they are more clear or not of the -0.5 kind. Then at the end of the week I will decide what to order for my new contacts.
After the eye doctor, it took some time for my eyes to adjust back to normal. I am not a fan of all the lights and drops they need to put in your eyes for testing, but my eyes are healthy so that is good. I then headed to Whole Foods. I picked up my few items, including beets!
I have only had beets a handful of times in my life and I decided I wanted to try to cook some. Maybe those Valentine’s recipes like beet smoothies and beet pancakes have been getting to me…
Then I headed to Target and Wegmans for food for the week. I came home with so much food!! My cabinets with some of my staples were depleting so it was a big list this week. I got home just in time as it started to snow as I was putting together a quick lunch of cheese, ham and crackers. I used to call this my homemade lunchables. I never liked the packaged lunchables (probably a good thing), because I liked my honey ham and sharp cheddar cheese. Overall I am not a big cheese person, (I actually don’t eat much dairy at all these days since becoming lactose intolerant) but when I am craving some cheese and ham on crackers, I go with it. I also prefer crackers to bread, something about the crunchiness just makes it better.
The remainder of my afternoon Saturday, I studied yoga and went through my flow. It will be better once I have the flow memorized so I can practice teach with some of my fellow trainees before my actual day. Less than 3 weeks till I teach…eeekk.
In the evening, I took some time to relax and read for fun. I have really missed reading for fun. I had a lot of time last year when I was unemployed and then when I started working again I didn’t have time it seemed, so I made a point to have that as part of my balance this weekend.
Sunday…
…to sum it up in one word was COLD! I was crazy and headed out early to catch the 7:50 train to the city and it was 10 degrees, but about -10 F with wind chill. I was pretty much the only person out at that hour, being that it was Sunday and snowy, I am sure most people were still in bed.
I took two yoga classes back to back and then walked back to the train station in the city to go home. Well you could say my day went well until the coming home part. It seemed that the trains got very behind during the morning and my 12:40 train was canceled but the 11:40 was over 40 minutes late so I was waiting for that train, so I thought. But then we were told to hop on a train to the next city station and the 12:45 (at that station) would be departing from there. I was with a group of people looking to be on the same train as me at this point. We arrived at the next station and the sign said our train was canceled. We were confused again and even though the train station was underground, it was cold while waiting. We then got an announcement that our train was boarding one track over, so we all ran up the stairs and headed over to the other track. Of course the doors were not even open yet to board…so we waited again until FINALLY we were sitting on the train and then able to leave the station. We stopped at the next station, things seemed to be going smoothly until we depart that station and find out there is a broken down train on our track…awesome… So then the train started moving backwards, we pass the station we were just at and heading back into the city. Then we stopped in between stations and they must have flipped a track switch until we finally got going. Wooo…that was crazy! Luckily I had my kindle to read and I had brought a snack to eat. I was also chatting about my yoga training with the woman next to me, so eventually we got moving and I got home.
I could not wait to eat, but mostly just warm up. My heat is struggling with the cold temps so my apartment has been 60 degrees. While it felt nice and warm at first, I knew I needed to get it warmer. Luckliy I had some sweet potatoes to roast. Using the oven heats the living room up really well 🙂
While that was going I was finally able to assemble a late lunch and relax with some hot tea to warm up my hands.
Then it was time for dessert. I got out my new little dishes I got for Christmas and made this deep dish cookie by Liz. So delicious!! Perfect mid afternoon snack 🙂
The afternoon passed by so quickly, but I got some cleaning and blog reading done, which was great. Then I practiced my headstands, because I hear inversions are good on a daily basis.
I think I treated myself very well this Valentine’s weekend! Remember that Valentine’s is about self loving too! I got some balance in my life both physically and mentally and hopefully by tomorrow I will feel nice and refreshed for the work week and studying yoga throughout the week for my test.
Did you do anything fun this weekend?
Did you treat yourself for Valentine’s Day?
